MUMBAI: Maharashtra chief minister Uddhav Thackeray on Sunday while addressing the state, appealed BJP
to leave behind their ego and pave way for the Metro rail car shed at
Kanjurmarg land through dialogue, instead of opposing it.
Thackeray
said the car shed site in the Aarey forest was meant only for the Metro
III project, while his government is planning a car shed for three more
Metro projects including, IV, V and VI projects, which is more ideal and
beneficial for the people.
“It
is unfortunate that the Centre has approached court for the Kanjurmarg
land. Though there are some issues related to Kanjurmarg land over
ownership, it should be resolved by dialogue between the Centre and the
state. We are ready to give credit for the project to the Centre if they
resolve the car shed land issue,” said Thackeray.
He said that
Kanjurmarg land is more suitable for the project and could be useful for
the next 50-100 years. “Prime minister Narendra Modi should not make
this as a prestige issue, as the controversy would not serve our motive,
which is service to the people,” said Thackeray.
Last Wednesday, in a major setback to the Thackeray-led Maha Vikas Aghadi government, the Bombay high court granted an interim stay on the collector's order allotting 102 acres of saltpan land at Kanjurmarg for construction of Metro car shed. The Centre and the Shiv Sena-led MVA government in Maharashtra are locked in a tussle over ownership of the land.
